Outdoor Class 2014

Posted on March 21, 2014 at 9:25 PM

DATE: Sat. Mar. 29, 2014

BACKUP DATE: If the weather is bad on Mar. 29th or the event has to be canceled for some other reason, then we will have the outdoor class on April 5th instead.

TIMES: You may choose either 10am-noon OR 4pm-6pm.

PLACE: Tanglewood Park (click here for map)

WHO CAN GO: Students age 9 and above

WHAT WE ARE DOING: This year we are making scientific drawings of plants and insects. Students will be making 2 drawings on large index cards that I will give them. They will look closely at the plants or insects that they choose and try to draw as much detail as they can. Next time that they come back to their regular classes, they will try to identify the plants and insects that they drew using nature guidebooks. The closer they observed, the easier it will be for them to identify! A few winners will also be chosen for best pictures.

FEE: $20 for the 2 hour event

FREE: I will bring free beverages for the kids.

WHAT TO BRING: Students will need to bring their own drawing supplies.

  • Everyone should bring at least a pencil and eraser.
  • The other supplies you bring will depend on if the student wants to draw in black and white or in color. For black and white, you can just bring pencil and pen. For color, you can bring colored pencils too.
  • You may also want to bring a small chair or cushion instead of sitting on the ground.
  • Some students like to bring a watch or cell phone to help them keep track of how much time they have left to finish their pictures, although I also announce the time often during the event.
